Well calibrated color-magnitude diagrams (CMDs) of main-sequence stars and white dwarfs are essential tools for identifying new members of the solar neighborhood from photometric or proper-motion surveys. We have obtained photometry of 160 nearby stars -- mostly K, M, and white dwarfs with well-determined parallaxes -- using the Sloan Digital Sky Survey Photometric Telescope (SDSS PT). We have constructed CMDs of these stars based on the SDSS u'g'r'i'z' photometric system defined at USNO's Flagstaff Station (Smith et al. 2002). Monotonic color-magnitude relations in r', i', and z' have been derived from low-order polynomial fits to the corresponding CMDs. As part of the NASA/NSF NStars program, we have undertaken a g'r'i'z' photometric survey of candidate nearby stars culled from the proper-motion surveys of W. Luyten. These Luyten candidates were selected on the basis of favorable astrometric and photometric matches to sources in the 2MASS Point Source Catalog. We have surveyed about 100 Luyten candidates to date with the SDSS PT. We report the results of this search for nearby stars and possible widely-separated companions to those stars.
