Photographic Astrometry: Refraction, Photographic Astrometry: Magnitude Equation

Scientific paper

The color refraction was evaluated using V and B plates in the ω Cen region taken with the 1 m reflector of CTIO. To evaluate the color refraction in the V passband, five plate-pairs in the V passband with larger range of hour angles were selected. The reference stars in the magnitude range 14.0 < V < 16.0 were used in analysis. Based on these material it is found that the coefficient of color refraction term in the V passband was 1.3521″ Similarly, the coefficient of 4.5403″was derived for the B passand plates. After correcting color refraction using the value obtained above, the magnitude equation was examined for both V and B plates. The results show that magnitude equation is significant. Therefore, linear and quadratic magnitude terms should be included in the solution for most of V and B plates for the 1 m reflector of CTIO.
