Cross sections for thermal energy charged-particle collisions with Rydberg levels of carbon are of importance in the new dielectronic-like recombination process proposed recently by Watson et al. (1980). We reexamine such cross sections and derive a new approximation applicable to the adiabatic proton collisions of interest in this process. Our cross sections are significantly smaller than those used by Watson et al. so that recombination in carbon is likely to be more hydrogen-like than their estimate.
