The excitation of spectral lines of atomic silicon has been investigated
by the crossed-beams technique. Absolute cross sections have been
measured for 14 ultraviolet lines, with the energy of the exciting
electrons ranging from 250 eV down to excitation threshold. Optical
excitation functions have been recorded for four of the lines.
