We study the interaction of a rotational discontinuity A with the bow shock S_b as the point of interaction moves over S_b . The orientations of the interplanetary magnetic field and the incident rotational discontinuity are varied over fairly wide ranges which are consistent with currently available observations. The typical strengths of the interplanetary magnetic field are considered. We found the pattern of variation of the flow that arises in the vicinity of S_b and determined the effect of the orientation of the magnetic field and of the rotational discontinuity on the interaction in question. The velocity of displacement of the bow shock is estimated. We revealed an asymmetry of the impact on the flanks of S_b and an appreciable contribution of slow MHD waves to the process under consideration.
