In the interpretation of the parsec-scale, one-sided core jets found in the AGNs and quasars, the synchrotron mechanism, together with the relativistic aberration effect, is often incorporated. However, the standard models are often rather inadequate in explaining the unusually large jet-counterjet brightness ratios of the core jets. In this paper, it is suggested that, in the presence of strongly magnetized, energetic plasmas of various species, the collective emission due to plasma microinstability is an alternative radiation mechanism for the core-jet emission. Subsequent analyses show that the collective emission is broad-banded in frequency space, with partial linear or elliptical polarization (depending on the constituents of the plasma). Moreover, the present theory predicts an arbitrarily large jet-counterjet brightness ratio, which indicates that the collective emission is a viable mechanism that might explain some of the observed features of the one-sided core jets.
