Dark Matter, Galaxy: Structure, Globular Clusters: Individual (Pal 5)

We present preliminary results from numerical experiments to examine the effect of dark matter subhaloes on the coherence of Cold Stellar Streams. We show that the evolution of the globular cluster, Pal 5, in a smooth Galactic potential can not account for the structure seen in its tidal tails. Work is ongoing to design indices that quantify the impact of subhaloes on stellar streams, and which may be measured from current observations of Pal 5. We introduce simple examples of indices that we use to analyse the numerical experiments and report on the potential of this approach to yield useful clues about the nature of Dark Matter.
