Iso, Macros: Dust, Star Formation

Scientific paper

The Sc galaxy M 33 was mapped with ISO at three far in- frared wavelengths, 60, 100, and 160 μm, in order to study the distribution and the heating of dust. On the basis of a prelimi- nary data reduction done prior to the availability of P32TOOLS the spectral energy distributions in the FIR indicate the pres- ence of two dust components. The warmer component, at 40K,is concentrated to the star-forming regions, and heated by UV radiation from massive stars, thus tracing the star forma- tion activity, while the cold component, at 17K,is smoothly distributed over the entire disk, and which is heated by the dif- fuse interstellar radiation field.
