The Irvine-Jackson model has been used to evaluate the compositional relationships between spinel and silicates in two occurrences of hornblende-bearing alpine peridotites of the granulite facies, the Seiad ultramafic complex of northern California and the Finero ultramafic mass of northern Italy. Despite differences in origin, the two ultramafic bodies exhibit systematic partitioning of Mg and Fe 2+ between spinel and silicates, characteristic of recrystallization under granulite facies conditions.
