A theoretical model of the energy budget of the polar caps of Mars has
been created which is used to study the hemispherical asymmetry in CO2
ice. The observations which show survival of seasonal CO2 ice in the
Southern Hemisphere in summer and not in the Northern Hemisphere in
summer have been reproduced.
