In January 1998, SRL began analysis on a prospective variant to the Bussard Ramscoop. Co-Linear deuterium Propulsion provides all the same novelties-propulsion without stored propellant mass, velocities of up to 1/2 light, and on-board energy generation. Unlike Bussard's system, all CDP components are accessible technology; the technology is either already here, or it's within 25 years of reach. Whereas a key element of the Interstellar Ram is the ramscoop proper (at nearly 50 years away in availability), all CDP elements are within twenty years of fruition. The results of our preliminary research are presented below.
