A small sample of 5 bright luminous infrared galaxies (LIRGs) was observed and the ço\ mapping results reveal the gas distribution concentrated on the galactic nuclei. For NGC 3256, the maps in the CO(3-2), (4-3) and (6-5) transitions were obtained. Together with the measurements in the lower transitions from the literatures, the peak of the CO line spectral energy distribution was found at CO(5-4). Local LIRG NGC 3256 shows slightly lower excitation conditions than the submm galaxies (SMGs).
