A complete analytic description is given in the Newtonian approximation for the geodesics in the Einstein-Straus universe. The capture of collisionless particles is discussed as a mechanism for the formation of bound systems in an expanding universe. Relations for the change of momentum with expansion parameter of the equations of motion for free particles are recovered.
