The geometry of a closed world satisfying the classical Einstein
equations can be represented explicitly as a gravitational field
configuration superposed on a topologically trivial, geometrically flat
spacetime. Its total energy, momentum, and angular momentum will vanish.
This approach could have a bearing on the quantum birth of the universe.
