We have been studying a large sample of Herbig Ae/Be (HAeBe) stars - intermediate mass (2M¤ £ M £ 8M¤) pre-main sequence objects - identified by the Pico dos Dias Survey (PDS - a search for young stellar objects). In order to analyze the circumstellar matter distribution of this sample, we adopted a simple model of a system composed of a central star surrounded by a geometrically thin and optically thick, passive disk and a spherical dust envelope. One of the outputs of this model, particularly interesting for this study, is the contribution of the circumstellar components (dust disk and/or envelope) to the total emitted flux (Sc). We present the results obtained for 99 PDS stars (20 well-known HAeBe stars and 79 candidates). We classified these stars in 4 groups based on the shape of their spectral energy distributions (e.g., in 2 groups the far-IR flux is greater than the optical flux and in the other 2, it is the contrary). We analyzed this classification and the Sc in relation to other properties of the sample stars. The distribution of Sc is in agreement with the spectral indexes measured in the near- to mid-IR range, as well as in the visible to mid-IR range. The distributions of Sc as a function of spectral types are different for the Herbig Ae and for the Herbig Be stars. This is in agreement with other differences observed between the higher mass and the lower mass stars of this class of young stars.
