The Nearby Supernova Factory reports that a spectrum (range 320-1000 nm) of the supernova candidate (CBET #580) in PGC 70011 (z = 0.029314; Ratcliffe et al. 1998, MNRAS, 300, 417), obtained July 20.5 UT with the Supernova Integral Field Spectrograph on the University of Hawaii 2.2-meter telescope, reveals that it is a Type II supernova. The spectrum exhibits H-alpha in net emission (full width at continuum of 5,000 km/s), other hydrogen Balmer P Cygni features, and P Cygni He I 587.6 nm (7,000 km/s maximum ejection velocity, measured from the blue absorption edge).
