Methanol masers are uniquely associated with star forming regions. The 44 GHz Class I maser was thought to be associated with outflows from young stellar objects, and offset from the centres of star formation. However, recent work has shown the contrary, that these masers are in fact tracing the envelopes of extremely young embedded sources, possibly some of the youngest high mass protostars known. To investigate this and potentially identify new extremely young objects, we have recently completed the first unbiased survey for Class I methanol masers. The survey has identified 56 maser sources. We request time in this proposal to position these objects accurately. These precise positions will be used to identify these objects correctly with other masers and IR surveys such as GLIMPSE & MSX and ATLASGAL.
