The IYA 2009 working group on Research Experiences for Students, Teachers and Citizen Scientists is organizing a multi-year project to engage more people in citizen science and needs your advice, input and participation. The project involves both data collection and data analysis involving occulting objects (incl. variable stars, minor planets, satellites, etc.) leading to a capstone project focused on the rare and mysterious 2009-2011 eclipse of 3rd magnitude star Epsilon Aurigae. This session will begin with a description of recently successful citizen science projects which involved data collection and analysis by members of the public. We will then outline our proposed plans for 2009-2011. After that short introduction, a discussion from participants will be facilitated to look at these issues from *your* perspective. The discussion will be structured so that everyone has a voice to explore what has and has not worked for your audiences. We invite you to make citizen science part of your institution's plans for IYA by participating in this interactive session. What could help bring this project into line with your existing IYA program? How might you apply the lessons learned to your own projects and collaborations?
