Data obtained on RS Ophiuchi immediately after outburst appear to indicate that there is a shell of interstellar dust around the nova which is being shock-heated by the passage of ejecta. The dust, which is initially responsible for the observed IR excess, becomes unobservable by day 60 when the observed flux is probably due to emission from the secondary. These results suggest that further observations will yield information on the reestablishment of a circumstellar shell.
