The paper investigates a sudden polarization rise near phase 0.8 in M-type Mira variables (o Cet, RT Cyg). It is shown that the silicate grains exposed to short wavelength (i.e. X or UV) radiation can be the main cause of the observed polarization rise. It is suggested that the source of this radiation is both in the shock wave and flares generated by the stellar convective zone, and that all other features observed at the same time are closely connected with these events.
