Scientific paper

A simple method to estimate the strength of the surface magnetic field
of a white dwarf from the degree of circular polarization in its
continuum spectrum is proposed. The method is applied to the observed
spectra of G99-37 and G227-35 giving a fairly good fit in the optical
range.
