The three dimensional magnetic field of solar active regions is studied by comparing the observed and computed chromospheric magnetograms obtained at National Solar Observatory with SOLIS and NASA/NSO Spectromagnetograph. The model chromospheric field is obtained by extrapolating the observed photospheric field in to chromosphere with a potential (current-free) magnetic field model in Cartesian geometry. The long lived active regions display the strong-field non-potentiality during their initial phase and converse to a potential field configuration later.
