The Mg II fluxes in cool dwarf stars were calculated by measuring a 4 A passband centered on the Mg II k line in high-resolution IUE spectra, and by calibrating the continuum flux using spectra of narrow-lined stars. These measurements and published data on Mg II, C IV, and X-ray emission are discussed. Qualitative physical interpretations for the upper boundaries (in the flux-color diagrams) are suggested.
