A procedure for calculating wave fields is proposed which involves a modification of the parabolic-equation method and uses the similarity principle. This approach makes it possible to obtain the quantitative energy characteristics and approximate phase characteristics of wave fields for actual sources. Attention is given to the determination of the optimal relationship between elementary distances along and across the propagation path in a finite-difference scheme for computing vertical sections of the wave field over arbitrary distances along an earth-ionosphere path.
