A new version of the CHIANTI atomic database for astrophysical spectroscopy is being prepared for imminent release. This will constitute Version 6.0. The main focus of this release is the inclusion of ionization cross-sections and rate coefficients from Dere (2007) and recombination rate coefficients from the literature, in particular, the calculations of Badnell and colleagues. A new set of ionization equilibria have been calculated from these rate coefficients. These show some significant differences from previous calculations. Atomic data for many ions have been revised and new calculations are included that enable the calculation of spectra of ions new to the CHIANTI database. The radiative loss function has been calculated based on the CHIANTI Version 6 database for both coronal and photospheric abundances.
A paper describing CHIANTI Version 6.0 in detail has been accepted for publication in Astronomy and Astrophysics.
