The composition in major and minor elements and in 41 trace elements (REE) was determined for lunar highland samples, and the results are interpreted in terms of a three-component mixing model, the three components being a trace element-poor anorthositic component, a trace element-enriched component (KREEP), and a Mg-rich primary component. The ternary mixing computation is shown to be superior to the binary one, in which the contribution of KREEP for the major elements was taken into account only in a crude way.
