Dust immersed in an ambient plasma become charged due to collisions of the plasma ions and electrons with the constituent grains. The value to which the grains will charge is dependent on the plasma temperature, density and velocity distribution as well as the scale lengths within the dust cloud. In many space and astrophysical dusty plasma environments, the dust density is significant enough that the grains may not be considered isolated, that is, collective effects become more significant. The equilibrium charging of dust in a cloud with a specified size distribution is considered, taking into consideration primary ion and electron currents as well as secondary and tunneling electron currents.
