We present an analysis of 173 host galaxies of supernovae as discovered by the ESSENCE project. The ESSENCE project has identified around 155 type Ia supernova (SNe Ia) which this analysis is based upon. 18 core collapse supernovae that were discovered are also analyzed. The ESSENCE supernovae are distributed in the range of 0.1
