It is demonstrated that the multifractal statistics can be a useful tool for characterization of well log signals. The signals investigated in this work come from a dipmeter log device and it is shown that multifractal spectrum can distinguish formations containing different types of heterogeneities. Multifractals are essentially multi-point statistics, and comparison is made with one-point (univariant) and two-point (bivariant) statistical methods, in particular the Fourier analysis.
