The test facilities, test strategy and some example results of the calibration of ISOPHOT, one of the four focal plane experiments on ISO (Infrared Space Observatory), are described. Sophisticated test equipment is required in order to exploit the full potential of low background infrared photodetectors. The laboratory test set up described is flexible enough to deal with different types of sensitive detectors and arrays under a large variety of test conditions such as photon background, flux sequences, temperatures, high energy radiation, etc. The calibration facility for testing the complete ISOPHOT experiment simulates the optical and cryogenic environment of ISO and allows accurate performance measurements under very low background conditions combined with near real time data evaluation. The performance of the Si:Ga, Si:B, Ge:Ga and stressed Ge:Ga detector assemblies is reported.
