The composite structure of the Perseids is discussed. It is argued that the "new" peak of the shower at solar longitude lambda=139.5 degrees is caused by meteoroids recently ejected from Comet 109P/Swift-Tuttle, most probably during the previous return of the comet. It is possible that the new peak is going to disappear soon, especially if the ejection of matter from the comet was isotropic.
