Intercosmos-10 topside-sounding data are used to identify the characteristics (stable for the solstices) of the global longitudinal effect in the nightime equatorial anomaly (EA) under conditions of high solar activity. In particular, longitiudinal variations of NmF2, hmF2, and N(e) in the topside ionosphere above the geomagnetic equator are identified along with the locations of both anomaly crests and the degree of development and asymmetry of the EA. It is shown that the nighttime EA is most highly developed where an N(e) maximum arises due to the longitudinal effect at midlatitudes of the summer hemisphere, i./e., at a longitude of 330 deg for the summer soltice and at longitudes of 150-180 deg for the winter solstice.
