An investigation of families of gamma quanta, recorded by an X-ray emulsion chamber at heights of 25-30 km, has revealed a group of events in which more than 90% of the secondary gamma quanta have high transverse momenta. The gamma quanta in these families are located relatively close to one another. This can result in the superposition of the particles of one electron-photon cascade on another electron-photon cascade, leading to erroneous (higher-than-normal) determinations of the gamma-quanta energy. The sector method was used in an effort to minimize this superposition effect. It is shown that 'normal' values of the transverse momenta of the secondary gamma quanta cannot be obtained even after maximally possible corrections have been made.
