Characteristics of gamma-quanta families and hadrons produced in cosmic ray showers are examined in the framework of elementary-act models of nuclear interactions. Three separate elementary-act models are used in the analysis. A significant finding is that at low energies the high-multiplicity model contradicts the experimental results, whereas at higher energies it describes the data more accurately than the other two models.
