We have started a characterization of the noise in SPH (Smoothed Particle Hydrodynamics) simulations of the gas component of protoplanetary discs. The main goal is the determination of the properties of the fluctuating velocity field in order to compare them to those proper both to standard incompressible Kolmogorov turbulence and to compressible supersonic turbulence. A controlled fluctuating velocity field with turbulence-like properties is very important in the context of the theories of pre-planetesimal formation where the dynamics of dust, driven by that of the gas, is the crucial point.
