A 21-yr stretch of the long-term American Association of Variable Star Observers (AAVSO) light curve of the dwarf nova SS Cygni is examined using standard techniques developed to search for an underlying chaotic attractor. The aim is to constrain the number of variables required to model the variations in the optical line flux. No evidence is found for a low-dimensional attractor.
