A new mechanism, inner engine, of gamma bursts (GRB) source is suggested. In contrast to the existing gravitational and neutrino models, the suggested engine has a pure quantum vacuum nature. It is shown that during collapse of a stellar object, the changing electron density results in alternating the vacuum of electromagnetic field. Using the Bogolubov coefficients technique, it is found that the change of vacuum leads to creation of high energy gamma photons with total energy ~ 10^53erg provided the collapse of a core with a few solar masses goes to the neutron star densities. It is described how such high-energy photons can create a relativistic lepton-photon fireball needed to explain the observed GRB.
