Earth'S Atmosphere, Earth'S Gravitational Field

Scientific paper

Mass transport of the atmosphere, ocean and the solid Earth results in the temporal variation in Earth's gravitational field. Using monthly mean precipitation and temperature data about over 7000 land meteorological stations, monthly mean atmospheric pressure data provided by NCEP,TOPEX/Poseidon Satellite Altimeter data and WOA98 oceanic temperature and salinity model, changes of low-degree harmonic coefficient in the Earth's gravitational field are predicted . Comparing the predicted results about J2 ,J3 ,J4 caused by atmosphere, continental water storage and oceanic mass movement with the observed results from SLR satellites, the results show that annual variation of low-degree harmonic coefficient in Earth's gravitational field is mostly excited by the changes of atmosphere, continental water storage and oceanic mass distribution.
