An outburst composed of several tens of SGR-like bursts was detected from the AXP 1E 2259+586 in June 2002. Coincident with this burst activity were gross changes in the spindown, pulse profile, energy spectrum, pulsed and persistent flux of the underlying X-ray source. We present XMM/PN and XTE/PCA observations of 1E 2259+586 that show the evolution of the aforementioned source parameters during and following this episode and identify recovery timescales for each. The changes in source properties are compared to similar changes seen during outbursts from other magnetar candidates. Finally, we discuss how these observations of 1E 2259+586 fit within the context of the magnetar model.
