The shape of the proton spectrum over the energy range from 20 to 1000 keV at a distance of 1 AU after passage through a specific amount of matter in the solar corona is obtained on the assumption of an initial power-law spectrum. Energy losses experienced by soft protons in the storage region near the sun are computed, and the change in proton spectral shape that occurs during propagation in the corona is analyzed. Analytical results are briefly evaluated for different values of the governing parameters.
