Multifrequency sounding was used to investigate density disturbances caused in the E-layer maximum region by high-power radio waves at a frequency of 4.2 MHz, which was close to f0E (the E-layer critical frequency). It is shown that this type of disturbance leads to an appreciable increase in f0E. The magnitude of the disturbance and the character of its temporal change agree well with the theoretical results of Gurevich and Shvartsburg (1973) and Itkin and Krotova (1981).
