The bivariational technique is employed to determine Chandrasekhar's
(1950) X and Y functions and their first two moments for the case of an
isotropic homogeneous finite slab. This information is sufficient for
calculating the intensity of radiation emerging from the atmosphere. The
present results show excellant agreement with those of Sobouti (1963).
