The Chandra X-ray Observatory, launched 1999 July 23, spent its first two months performing On-orbit Activation and Calibration (OAC) activities. This phase of the mission acquired about 40 Ks of data from the young cluster NGC 2516 as part of the boresight and plate-scale measurements of the various instruments. These observations will augment a planned (deeper) GTO observation of this cluster. Here we present the data reduction and analysis techniques needed to make scientific use of these early observations. As many as 100 X-ray detections were found in data returned by the ACIS-I, ACIS-S, HRC-I and HRC-S observations. We assess the absolute position accuracy achieved by comparison with ROSAT detections and optical locations of the same cluster members, and we also discuss the methods employed to obtain reliable photometry of the Chandra sources as observed in all four of Chandra's imaging detectors. This work was funded in part by NASA contract NAS8-39073 and NASA grant NAS5-4967.
