We present an analysis of an ACIS-S 20ks observation of NGC 4594 (the Sombrero galaxy). We detect approximately 100 point x-ray sources in the energy band 0.3-2.0 keV, with about 10 serendipitous sources expected. For the approximately 90 sources associated with the galaxy (distance of 8.55 Mpc), the luminosities range from 1.3*E37 erg/s to 5.9*E38 erg/s. We present a source luminosity function and compare it to those of previously studied galaxies. In a 2' circle centered on the nucleus we find 72 sources in the 0.3-2.0 keV band above the disk and only 15 sources below. This indicates that the dusty disk may be absorbing much of the x-ray emission from sources below the disk. Softer x-rays are absorbed more than hard x-rays, with 12 sources below the disk and 25 above the disk in the 2-5 keV energy band. We also present a temperature map of the diffuse emission, which is detected from the center to a distance of about 7 kpc. X-ray spectra of the diffuse emission are presented. We discuss the optical and x-ray properties of this weak Seyfert 1 galaxy. This work supported by NASA contracts NAS8-39073, NAS8-38248.
