Chandra X-ray Observatory grating observations of the supergiant X-ray binary 4U 1700-37 reveal strong, narrow emission lines in the 4-8 Angstrom range. These lines may account for a substantial portion of the "soft X-ray excess" seen in late phases in this source. During the observations, contemporaneous with RXTE and USA observations, 4U 1700-37 displayed rapid flaring. We examine the time variability of both the overall spectrum and the lines.
