We have obtained spatially resolved Chandra and XMM spectroscopy of NGC 5044, an isolated elliptical/fossil group, as well as two clusters of galaxies, Abell 2029 and Abell 644. Using a sophisticated deprojection technique we recover the 3D properties of the hot X-ray gas. We observe strong abundance gradients, with super-solar measurements in the cores of all systems. The two clusters exhibit strong temperature declines towards their centers, though we see no evidence for gas below a few keV, and the addition of a cooling flow model does not improve the fits. The spectrum of NGC 5044 exhibits an anomalously low oxygen abundance, similar to other cooling systems, which is only resolved with the inclusion of a warm absorber, which also provides the highest quality fit to the data. Implications for our understanding of chemical enrichment, and the new paradigm for `cooling' systems will be discussed. Time permitting we will present the dark matter profiles inferred for these systems.
