CHaMP is surveying the earliest phases of massive star formation by compiling the largest, most uniform, and least biased database of such regions. We propose to continue CHaMP for the 3rd & 4th years to execute the second half of the project design. With the 90 GHz dense-gas mapping program from 2006-07 complete, we plan to relate the dense-gas conditions to the physics (temperature, density, mass, luminosity, kinematics) of the larger GMC envelopes. We will analyse the contribution of the environment of a GMC to the physical state of the dense clumps, and to the properties of the clusters that form from them. The unbiased sample will reveal what the important stages of evolution are for GMCs, and their lifetimes. The statistics of lifetimes and physical parameters are important inputs to models, which are still poorly constrained. This project will have great Legacy value for ALMA, Herschel, etc. Therefore we request long-term status for the next 2 years. We also ask for a small amount of time to calibrate the "fast mapping" mode, once available, in our well-studied CHaMP window. This will have immediate benefits to the community for the planned Milky Way Surveys.
