We describe preliminary results of an ongoing serendipitous survey for galaxy groups and clusters from the Chandra Multi-wavelength Project (ChaMP). We detect 64 extended X-ray sources in 156 Chandra archival fields (11 sq. deg.), and present a comparison between X-ray and optical detection methods for fields covered by our deep g', r', i'-band NOAO 4-meter mosaic imaging. Source properties, both at X-ray and optical wavelengths, will be described and contrasted with previous surveys. We gratefully acknowledge support for the ChaMP from NASA under CXC archival research grant AR3-4018X.
