The authors report the end of the shell spectrum phase of CH Cyg and its transformation into a symbiotic star. A Reticon spectrum of moderate dispersion showing forbidden and permitted emission lines as well as strong absorption by Ca I and Al I is displayed. The absence of Sr II absorption in the shell during prior years may be explained by ionization from the first excited state by Lα photons. Sr II absorption gradually reappeared in 1983 - 84.
