A mathematical model is used to establish the methodological limits of the Doppler technique for the measurement of ionospheric wave disturbances. The presence of a powerful low-frequency component in the ionospheric-disturbance spectrum leads to a shift in time along the frequency axis of the high-frequency peaks in the Doppler-frequency-shift fluctuation spectrum even if the frequency of the corresponding high-frequency components of the disturbances is unchanged. This makes it difficult to adequately interpret the pattern of high-frequency components of the Doppler spectrum.
